The NDHC is seeking new members.

The North Dakota Humanities Council (NDHC) invites nominations to fill future openings on its governing council.  The NDHC is the state’s independent, nonprofit affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. The council seeks a wide geographic representation and range of civic and/or academic experience.  To be considered for openings to be filled at the regular March meeting, nominations must be submitted by March 1, but nominations are accepted throughout the year.

The North Dakota Humanities Council consists of 15 volunteer academic and public members.  Council members help to make the humanities accessible statewide and take active roles in council fundraising initiatives.  Understanding and appreciating what history, literature, philosophy, and the other humanities can bring to people of all ages is one of the important criteria for selecting NDHC members.

Members attend three meetings per year; evaluate grant proposals; serve on committees; determining policy and council initiatives; and design financial strategy.  Nominees should be supportive of the NDHC’s mission and goals, interested in the humanities, dedicated to public service, and committed to providing cultural enrichment opportunities for North Dakota citizens. Three of the members are gubernatorial appointees while 12 are elected by the council.  Members serve three-year terms.

Letters of nomination should include the name and address of the nominee and a brief description of why the person should serve, including experience and interest in public humanities programming.  A vita or resume and a letter of interest from the nominee should also be included. Self-nominations are accepted.
